Sony Group's blockchain joint venture with Startale Labs, Sony Block Solutions Labs (Sony BSL), launched the “Soneium Minato” public testnet, alongside an ambitious developer incubation program, "Soneium Spark." According to the team: "This dual initiative marks a significant milestone in Sony Group's entry in Web3, poised to catalyze ecosystem growth and accelerate adoption by leveraging its vast global reach and technological expertise across entertainment, gaming and consumer electronics sectors." The move comes a week after the pioneering electronics giant unveiled the plans to erect a layer-2 network atop Ethereum called Soneium, using technology from Optimism's OP Stack.
Starknet Gets Parallel Execution, 2-Second Transactions With 'Bolt' Upgrade
Parallel execution has arrived on Starknet with the 'Bolt' upgrade, expanding the Ethereum layer-2 blockchain's capacity "by enabling independent transactions to be executed simultaneously," according to the team: "The network is the first layer 2 to have 'megastore capabilities,' with the sequencer now able to execute multiple transactions in parallel. The introduction of Parallel Execution is part of the network's upgrade to version 13.2, which also includes Block Packing, a feature that makes use of every last bit of block space and will reduce confirmation time to two seconds — exactly what devs and users want from Starknet." Drone-Delivery Network Hyperway Working With Peaq Blockchain for Smart-Contract Rewards
Hyperway, described as a "decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) of community-owned ground relays for ensuring fast data exchange between delivery drones and ground control centers," is working with the layer-1 blockchain peaq for certain functionality, according to a blog post published Wednesday. The peaq team wrote in a message that "Hyperway is building a DePIN of community-owned ground-based stations serving drones, air taxis, autonomous cargo ships and other transport. It has partnered with four Asian governments (Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Japan) and signed a major agreement with the Malaysian state of Sabah to support cargo drone operations in agriculture." The blog post elaborated that "as part of the integration with peaq, Hyperway will build the software needed to connect 5G and satellite ground relays with peaq. It will also build the smart contracts rewarding the owners of such stations with tokens based on how much bandwidth the drones have used up. It will also integrate peaq-compatible digital wallets into the DePIN and run a restricted public trial involving real-world drone flights powered by its DePIN."

Lemniscap, a Cayman Islands-headquartered investment firm, said it raised a $70 million fund to back early stage Web3 projects. The fund will focus on projects in the Bitcoin ecosystem, reflecting a trend of the past 18 months, whereby developers have sought to introduce to the world's oldest blockchain utility that is more commonly associated with the likes of the Ethereum network. Lemniscap is targeting zero-knowledge infrastructure, consumer applications and decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN), according to an emailed announcement on Wednesday.
Mezo, Acre Launch 'stBTC,' Claiming First With Liquid Yield-Bearing Bitcoin Product on TBTC

Radix, a distributed ledger project built around native assets known as "resources," has announced the planned creation of the 1.5 billion XRD ($37 million) Endowment Fund. The process of selecting an institution to manage the fund – one requirement is that it have a balance sheet in excess of $1 billion in crypto – is underway. Aave Comes to Ethereum Layer-2 Project ZKsync's Era Mainnet
Aave, the biggest DeFi lending protocol with a total value locked of $11.9 billion, announced the launch of Aave V3 on Era Mainnet, powered by ZKsync. Yonsei University's AI researchers will use Theta EdgeCloud to accelerate AI model training and inference for research in machine reasoning and data mining, according to the team: "Led by Professor Dongha Lee, the lab will develop advanced tools like a table reasoner and summarizer to extract implicit knowledge from tabular data. By utilizing Theta's scalable platform, the lab can reduce costs by more than 50% compared to traditional cloud services."
OORT, Provider of Blockchain-Based Verification Layer for AI Data, Partners With National Science Foundation Center
OORT, a cloud platform for decentralized AI, has partnered with the National Science Foundation's(NSF) eCAT (Electric, Connected, and Autonomous Technologies for Mobility) IUCRC research center. According to the team: "OORT, which provides a blockchain-based verification layer for data used by AI engines, will collaborate closely with leading institutions in this project including Wayne State University, Clarkson University, the University of North Texas, the University of Delaware and Oakland University. GaiaNet, Decentralized AI Inferencing Project, Launches Hackathon
GaiaNet, a project for decentralized AI inferencing, is launching a global "Living Knowledge Systems Hackathon," which will run from Aug. 22 to Sept. 13. Registration began Aug. 19, 2024. According to the team: "The prize pool will include up to $50K in rewards. Winning participants will also be invited on an expense-paid trip to TOKEN2049 Singapore, where they will join the GaiaNet executive team at an exclusive launch party. The aim of the event is to build decentralized nodes, solve security vulnerabilities in centralized AI models and tackle issues like censorship, algorithmic bias and data privacy."
